This months prize wanker is our very own Ade Sherwood, for swanning around the poker masters thinking he’s Devilfish! when in fact he’s more like Goldfish.

The “ice man” Dave Copplestone held his nerve in usual fashion to earn Lucky Kiss B a 6-6 draw against a very strong Bar Mez team.
The Torpoint team came to Bude on the back of a resounding win against our neighbours from Kilkhampton, but got more than they bargained for as Lucky Kiss B finally won a team game!.
The trebles then saw honours even, so going into the doubles LKs premier league team were 2-1 up and looking the real deal.
However the first 2 doubles games saw the home side hit the self destruct button and before you could say “get Bruce a vodka” Bar Mez were 3-2 in front.
Enter “Dad” and “ice man” aka Ian Derosa and Dave Copplestone!, With the pressure really on the dynamic duo took to the oche and gave an exhibition of high scoring and lethal finishing to level the match at 3-3.
So onto the singles; first up was Bruce Wickett, not his best position going on first due to the lack of alcohol at this early stage of the night, and was duly overcome.
Next to enter the fray was our very own Sean Johns (county & golden arrow champion), we needed a captains innings and thats exactly what we got. Sean dispatched his opponent 3-0 in as many minutes hitting a 15 dart leg in the 3rd.
Now it was time for “haggis Man” to try to tame the unusually mellow Tug Wilson, who for reasons best known to himself didn’t once complain about the lighting. Maybe thats what put our answer to “william wallace” off and again LK were trailing.
We now needed a player with steel, tenacity, and a killer instinct, instead we had Kev Derosa! (only joking) “super Kev” now back playing somewhere near his best in recent months started well taking the opening leg, then due to that “wanker” Gordon Brown i had to go outside to smoke my cigarette, when i came back “Super Kev” was 2-1 down and staring defeat in the face. But just when you think he’s dead and buried he manages to find the extra gear and sprint for the line.
With the match level once again it was down to our two most experienced players to try to win us the match.
Up stepped Ian “Dad” Derosa at the ripe old age of 84, or was that 48?, Anyway the first 2 legs flew by and despite Ian playing some good stuff he found himself 2-0 down!, But Ian has been in these positions many times before and after an array of ton-plus scores Ian was back at 2-2.
Unfortunately in the last leg the Bar Mez player picked himself up off the floor and played an inspirational last leg to put the Torpoint team 6-5 up.
So to the last game of the night, and bringing up the rear was the “Ice Man” Dave Copplestone, twice a golden arrow winner and cornwall’s rock!. Was he going to let them beat us? the answer was NO. Another great performance by one of the best players in the county was capped by the way he hit the 56 finish, sounds easy but at 2-2 in the last game with your opponent just hitting 140 to leave a double it is anything but easy.
A draw was a fair result and leaves Lucky Kiss B in 3rd place just tucked behind Bar Mez and London inn A with all to play for.

The Lucky Kiss Poker Masters 2008 got off to a fiery start last night when Oz “teamed-up” with Tony to talk him into an all in call he read wrong!
Simon quickly reached for his handbag, and after a few heated exchanges of words both players laid down their handbags and got on with the game.
It has to be said though, if you’re not in the hand - allow others to play their game. (especially when they are ahead with the high card, a gut-shot straight draw, and suspect the other player is relying the high card too)! Know what I mean Oz, lol.
Last year’s winner Ade, was somewhat disapointed not to make the final table after losing four or five quality hands to all in calls from K7 off suit and worse!
After an epic heads up battle where the chips seemed to be on a revolving conveyor belt for hours, Simon eventually came out on top with AJ against JJ and flopping the Ace.
Apart from the handbags at dawn (which was all Oz’s fault), a great start to the poker masters 2008.
Photo’s and full results to follow.
